The MI Charitable Foundation

Giving back is part of our culture.

It started with small gestures and quiet favors from one person to another, and grassroots giving efforts that helped support fellow team members in times of need. The care and concern for others unselfishly displayed by our team pushed us to the realization that we could do more. In 2015, the MI Charitable Foundation was born, and with it a renewed sense of purpose and compassion within our company. At our four fabrication facilities, our extrusion facilities, and our operational support center, committees work together to plan, fundraise, and give back to our local communities. From standard sub sales, to Taco Tuesdays, to in-house raffles and toy drives, our team goes above and beyond to ensure we’re making an impact on the lives of the people who live and work in our communities. The best part? The Foundation is driven by the team. While our leaders are fully engaged and supportive of the Foundation’s efforts, the action comes from the production teams and our support staff – the people who have their fingers on the pulse of their communities and are engrained in the everyday issues that effect local families and organizations. Our committees are empowered to plan and engage in fundraising and volunteer events that they are passionate about, and the result has been rapid growth (and rapid giving) that continues to humble and inspire us.

In addition to local outreach, we’ve partnered with several national organizations to support three noteworthy causes: veteran’s affairs, child wellbeing, and cancer at large with a particular focus on pediatric cancer. The organizations we support at a national level focus their primary efforts in at least one of these three categories.

Veteran's Affairs

The MI team believes strongly in supporting our veterans and active military members. As such, the MI Foundation works with Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit that builds specially adapted houses for soldiers wounded in post 9-11 combat. MI donates windows to these homes, and our team members volunteer at HFOT construction sites. In addition, MI’s team members support active-duty troops in myriad ways, like donating money every time they wear a R.E.D. (Remember Everyone Deployed) shirt and by compiling and sending care packages.

Children's Well-Being

Childhood_Wellbeing_IconAs a family-first company, MI Windows has made the fight for children’s well-being a priority. The MI Foundation works with numerous groups around the country to improve the quality of life for our nation’s young people. Our Foundation committees offer financial support and donations to organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Toys for Tots, and various “snack pack” programs. Furthermore, many of our team members volunteer with these charities and other groups focused on improving the lives of children.

Cancer Support

Since its creation, the MI Foundation has helped people affected by the scourge of cancer. We work closely with groups committed to fighting pediatric cancer – like Four Diamonds, a nonprofit that offers financial aid to families that have a child undergoing cancer treatment – and we provide financial support to research facilities, such as St. Jude in Memphis and Children's Medical Center of Dallas. But our work isn’t limited to pediatric cancer: We strive to use our resources to fight all forms of cancer. For example, in October 2018, we applied pink labels on all of our windows to help support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donated $25,000 each to two charities, the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Local Outreach

Much of the work that the MI Foundation does happens right in our own backyard. Most weeks MI team members are somewhere putting in volunteer hours to help a food bank, Ronald McDonald House, or other similar local organization. What’s more, our philanthropy quite often extends to our own team members and local residents, as our Foundation committees hold fundraisers and make donations to support local families and individuals in need.

The MI Foundation is more than financial support to causes – we’re a large group of people helping others in any way we can. With compassion at our core, we recognize that our social responsibility is equally as important as the care we put into each and every window we make, and we’re dedicated to continuing to grow and positively impact our communities and the causes that drive us.
